Walking is the most popular activity within the Brecon Beacons National Park. Pencelli Castle Caravan & Camping Park is the nearest 5 Star park to the Brecon Beacons mountain range, making it the ideal base for walking.
A holiday in Wales would not be complete without climbing the Brecon Beacons. You can walk from Pencelli Castle to the highest peak, Pen-Y-Fan in a little over three hours. The walk leads up past Llanfeugan Church, through open fields and onto the Brecon Beacons. Following sheep tracks and the high ridge with spectacular views all the way to Pen y Fan. The terrain is mainly gently sloping and grassy. Welsh Mountain sheep graze on the Brecon Beacons and over the years they have worn gentle paths which, if followed, make walking a lot easier.
Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal The towpath is ideal for a more leisurely walk, with its well maintained towpath. It passes through Pencelli Village and borders The Meadow (tent field) but the towpath is on the far bank so access for walking is via the village (100 yards). Walk to Talybont on Usk (two miles) - three pubs on the canal side, and paths branching off. One follows the historic Brinoer Tramroad, leading to Talybont Reservoir. The other direction leads to Brecon (5 miles) and terminates by Theatre Brycheiniog (Brecon Theatre). Brecon is a quaint market town with many unique features, shops, museums and cathedral. Too far to walk back? Take a taxi or the Brecon to Abergavenny service bus will drop you at our entrance if you ask the driver kindly.
Mountain Bike Hire Quality mountain bikes are available for hire on site. There is a good selection of well maintained bikes of all sizes. Helmets and tool kits are also provided. Pre booking may be advisable. There are so many tracks, paths, lanes and open countryside to explore including the Taff Trail which passes through Pencelli, but please remember the country code at all times.
